30-year mortgage rate climbs to 7.03% in week ending September 24
Freddie Mac says the average fixed rate is now at its highest since mid-January, up from 6.95% a week earlier.

The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage rose to 7.03% in the week ending September 24, Freddie Mac said. That is up from 6.95% the week before and the highest level since the week of January 16, 2025.
Rates have been climbing steadily. Freddie Mac said the average stood at 6.76% two weeks ago and 6.95% last week, up from 6.26% a year earlier, according to the company's news release.
Mortgage rates have climbed 32 basis points over three weeks, reaching their highest level since mid-January, but they remain within the range set since early September. The move reflects ongoing repricing in the bond market rather than a new directional shift, leaving the broader picture for housing largely unchanged from recent weeks.
