The S&P 500 ETF is little changed at +0.1% in a session with wide sector dispersion.
Financials lag at -0.8%, with Charles Schwab -3.7%, JPMorgan Chase -1.7% and Wells Fargo -1.7% among the weakest, while Goldman Sachs slips 0.8% as it is reported to be in talks to buy credit firm Palmer Square. Consumer Discretionary leads at +0.8%, driven by homebuilders and travel names, with Lennar +5.6%, PVH +4.9% and O'Reilly Auto +3.8% standing out. Materials also gain 0.8%, led by Axalta Coating +4.0%. Technology adds 0.3% as Western Digital +4.9% and Seagate +4.3% jump while Cisco falls 2.7%. Energy is the weakest sector at -1.0%, with Valero Energy -3.6% and Marathon Petroleum -2.9% leading declines amid a US diesel price record.
Small caps and momentum names outperform among factors: High Beta +1.0%, small-cap growth and value factors both around +0.8%, versus flat readings for broad value.
Within mega-cap growth, Oracle +2.5% and Alphabet +1.9%/+1.5% lead, while Cisco -2.7% and JPMorgan Chase -1.7% are the laggards.
Homebuilder and travel-linked ETFs are firm, with Homebuilders ETF +2.5%, Retail ETF +1.8% and Airlines ETF +1.7%, while Oil & Gas E&P ETF -1.3% and Invesco KBW Bank ETF -1.0% underperform. The VanEck Oil Refiners ETF drops 2.1%.
Individual movers are led by tech and consumer names on the upside and insurance brokers on the downside, without a clear common thread beyond sector positioning.
