Iran's Guard channel, citing the New York Times, says US and Israel plan a short strike
The channel also said US and Israeli forces have stepped up drills, including flights over Iraq, and that Washington has recalled some staff from bases in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard news channel said, citing a New York Times report, that the US and Israeli militaries have drawn up plans for a short but intense operation. The likely targets, it said, are Iran's energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities, missile arsenal and drones.
The channel said US and Israeli forces had intensified maneuvers, including flights over Iraq practicing offensive operations. It said the US Department of War and State Department had recalled some staff from bases and facilities in the region as a precaution.
The idea of a short campaign is not new. Drafted three-day Pentagon plans were reported on October 8, and a week-long bombing option on October 28, ahead of the midterm elections. Israeli jet drills near Iranian airspace and carrier deployments were already logged through October, and embassy drawdowns were confirmed in late October.
What this adds is a list of targets. It also comes by an unusual route: an Iranian state-linked channel pointing to an American newspaper, not US or Israeli officials speaking directly.
Still, it suggests that contingency planning around Iran's energy sector remains active while talks over Hormuz are stalled.
