Weak Qualcomm and Arm outlooks send investors into Treasurys and out of Bitcoin
Qualcomm guided first-quarter revenue to $10.4B to $11.2B and non-GAAP earnings to $2.15 to $2.35 a share with its results on Wednesday.
Investors bought Treasurys and sold Bitcoin on Thursday as weak outlooks from Qualcomm and Arm deepened the selling in chips. By 4:35 PM Eastern, Treasury yields were down six basis points at 4.83%, which means bond prices were higher. Bitcoin was down 5.4% at $75,810.
Buying bonds while selling Bitcoin suggests the worry has moved beyond semiconductors and into a broader retreat from risk. Oil stands apart from it. Crude was up 2.7% at $90.54 a barrel.
Qualcomm set the early tone. Its shares were down 11.7% in pre-market trading on Thursday, after the cautious guidance that came with its results on Wednesday.
