Microchip Technology reported second-quarter earnings of $0.97 a share, $0.02 better than expected. Revenue of $1.62B missed the $1.64B expected, so the beat came from profit, not from sales.
The outlook matters more than either number. For the third quarter of fiscal 2027, the company guides net sales to a range of $1.573B to $1.638B. The midpoint, about $1.606B, is below the $1.62B just reported, and only the top of the range is above it. Non-GAAP earnings are guided to $0.87 to $0.95 a share, a midpoint of $0.91.
Chief executive Steve Sanghi credited broad-based strength in industrial and data center end markets, supported by new design wins and product innovations. A sales guide that centres below the latest quarter suggests that strength is not yet lifting the top line. Those two markets are where it would have to show up in the guided quarter.
The board declared a quarterly cash dividend of 45.5 cents a share, payable December 8, 2026.
