Cigna beats third-quarter earnings estimate and raises its 2026 profit outlook
Revenue missed forecasts, and the lift comes entirely from Cigna Healthcare, with the Evernorth outlook left unchanged.
Chart: CI, one-minute prices, three sessions
Cigna earned $7.98 a share in the third quarter, $0.25 more than expected. Revenue of $73.79B fell short of the $74.90B expected.
The raise is small against that miss. Cigna now expects 2026 adjusted income from operations of at least $30.60 per share, up $0.15 from its prior projection. That is management's own forecast.
Only the Cigna Healthcare outlook moved. The unit now expects adjusted pre-tax income from operations of at least $4.6B, up $50m. Evernorth Health Services keeps its outlook of at least $6.9B.
Brian Evanko, Cigna's chief executive, said the results build on momentum from Accelerate to One, an initiative meant to drive productivity, cut costs and support long-term earnings growth.
Cigna also narrowed its 2026 medical care ratio outlook for Cigna Healthcare to 84.2% plus or minus 25 basis points, a 50 basis point narrowing. The ratio compares claims costs with premiums. A tighter range suggests management sees less room for surprise in claims costs for the rest of the year.
