Prudential says 2026 growth goal is harder to hit and expects Chinese mainland profit to fall

The insurer expects new business profit in the Chinese mainland to be 10% to 15% lower than in 2025, and calls local investment conditions in Indonesia volatile.

Prudential says achieving its 2026 target for growth in new business profit, the measure of profit from policies sold in the year, is now "more stretching" than it expected when it reported half-year results.

At those results it guided to double-digit growth for the full year in new business profit, operating free surplus generated, adjusted earnings per share and dividend per share. New business profit in the first half grew 8% to $1,384m, and margins rose 2 percentage points to 40%.

The planned purchase of a controlling interest in Bharti Life is a separate matter from the outlook. Prudential says it is making good progress on regulatory approvals.
