Google agrees to backstop Anthropic's leases at TeraWulf's Kentucky data center campus
TeraWulf also signed a guaranteed-maximum-price construction contract with Fluor for three buildings at Hawesville, with the first completions due in late 2027.
TeraWulf signed credit support agreements with Google on Wednesday covering debt financing tied to about $19bn of contracted lease commitments with Anthropic. The leases are for its Justified Data Campus in Hawesville, Kentucky, run 20 years, and Google will backstop certain Anthropic obligations under them.
The cover is limited. It takes effect only once the final data hall under each lease commences, and it ends once Anthropic reaches sustained investment-grade credit ratings. It applies to certain obligations, not to all of them.
Anthropic's own credit is the open question. Blackstone warned on October 30 that Anthropic may land a high junk rating rather than investment grade. On Monday, Anthropic's IPO filing disclosed $895bn in committed spend.
TeraWulf also signed a guaranteed-maximum-price engineering, procurement and construction agreement with Fluor Enterprises for three data center buildings at the campus. That fixes a maximum build cost. Phased ready-for-service completions are expected to begin in late 2027 and continue through the second quarter of 2028.
