Ovintiv misses on third-quarter earnings but keeps its 2026 guidance and dividend

Revenue of $2.60B beat the $2.47B expected, and the chief executive says the company is still on track for record free cash flow this year.

Ovintiv's adjusted third-quarter earnings of $1.95 a share came in $0.07 short of expectations, yet the company kept its 2026 production and capital guidance. Expected volumes of natural gas liquids rose modestly.

Revenue was $2.60B against $2.47B expected. Sales beating forecasts while earnings miss looks like a cost problem, not a demand one. Nothing in the guidance suggests it has changed the plan.

The board kept the quarterly dividend at $0.30 a share, payable on December 31 to holders of record on December 15. Ovintiv still expects to return more than 60% of free cash flow to shareholders this year, measured on its non-GAAP definition. President and CEO Brendan McCracken said the quarter keeps the company on track for record annual free cash flow, and pointed to enhanced drilling inventory in the Permian and Montney.

The costs matter because Ovintiv is taking on Logan Energy, a deal announced on October 26. The unchanged payout framework indicates it is not rethinking the capital behind that purchase, which targets $60m in annual synergies. The deal is due to close in early 2027.
