Germany prepares mobile network security rules that could shut Huawei out entirely
The German government is preparing new security requirements for mobile networks that could lead to the full exclusion of Huawei, Handelsblatt reported.
Germany's current terms date from contracts of July 2024 with Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica. Operators were allowed to keep Huawei base stations and antennas, Light Reading reported, provided they replace its configuration management system by the end of 2029.
The nearer deadline is already set. By the end of 2026, the German interior ministry said, operators must stop using all critical Huawei and ZTE components in their 5G core networks.
