Crescent Energy agrees to buy Devon's Eagle Ford assets for about $3.85bn after a third-quarter beat
The company also raised its Permian synergy target to more than $300m, with about $295m captured so far.
Crescent Energy has agreed to buy Eagle Ford assets from Devon Energy for an estimated net purchase price of about $3.85bn. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 or early 2027. It looks like consolidation in a mature basin rather than a bet on growth.
The agreement came with third-quarter results that beat expectations. Earnings were $0.77 a share, $0.15 better than expected, and revenue was $1.35bn against $1.25bn expected. Chief executive David Rockecharlie said the company delivered higher production, lower capital spending and higher free cash flow than the market expected.
The Permian record is what makes the purchase credible. Crescent raised its synergy target there to more than $300m and has captured about $295m of it. That suggests the company is executing the integration playbook it will now have to apply to Eagle Ford.
The board kept its fixed quarterly dividend at $0.12 a share, payable on November 30 to shareholders of record on November 16. The payout is unchanged even as the balance sheet takes on a multibillion-dollar acquisition.
