Voya Financial lifts its dividend 21% and adds $500m to buybacks after a small earnings miss

The new quarterly payout of $0.57 a share starts in the fourth quarter, and the extra buyback room sits on top of roughly $163m left at the end of September.

Voya Financial reported third-quarter earnings of $2.60 a share, $0.04 short of expectations, on revenue of $2.02bn against the $1.97bn expected.

The capital return is the larger part of the news. Voya raised its quarterly common stock dividend by 21% to $0.57 a share, starting in the fourth quarter of 2026. It also increased its share repurchase authorisation by $500m, in addition to roughly $163m of remaining capacity as of September 30, 2026.

Chief executive Heather Lavallee said the quarter showed the improvement expected in the second half. She pointed to commercial momentum in Retirement and Investment Management, margin gains in Employee Benefits and disciplined expense control.

The payout matters more than a $0.04 miss. A company that lifts its dividend by 21% and adds $500m to buybacks in the same report is not acting as if the shortfall marks trouble ahead.
